clean boost in front of sd18

Hi all,
My first post here. Has anyone experience with putting a clean boost pedal in front of the sd18? I'm looking for comments on how it differs (if it does) from just turning up the gain. Thanks for any info offered.

Hi I have a sd30 II head and I have been using my boost in my loop. And what I found was in the loop it only adds a true volume boost in your exsisting tone and thats what I was going for . When I had it going into the front of my amp it added more gain but not a huge volume boost. I'm using a boost called MK 4.23 I tried over 10 boosts and found this one to be the best as far as adding NO color to your tone it's a great boost if you can find one.
